The Harpers had a big side yard their kids never used: patchy grass, a leaning fence and beds full of weeds. They wanted a garden the whole family could enjoy without spending every weekend on upkeep.
What we did
We regraded the lawn for drainage, laid fresh sod, and built two raised beds for vegetables the kids chose themselves. A new steel edge separates lawn from beds, and drip lines on a timer handle watering.
The result
The family harvested its first salads eight weeks after planting day. Mowing takes twenty minutes, the beds weed in minutes, and the kids argue over whose tomato ripened first.
